MAPB Mission:

The mission of Mothers Against Police Brutality is to stop unaccountable use of police deadly force, particularly the killing of Black people and other people of color; to change deadly force and related policies and practices; to advocate for and with families who have lost loved ones to police violence; and to expand the concept of public safety beyond policing by limiting encounters between police and the public – and by making deep social investments in housing, health care, mental health services, employment, education, arts, recreation, and other presently unmet human needs.

MAPB Fellowship Legacy Program:

MAPB is building a national network among mothers directly impacted by police brutality – who have lost a child to fatal police shootings. The MAPB Fellowship Legacy Program is a key part of that emerging network. Through leadership development, community building, and narrative change, the MAPB fellowship will support the personal development and capacity of Mothers as leaders. Mothers in the program will gain skills in community organizing, research, media, and policy advocacy to make change in their community and, working together and in coalition with other groups, at the national level. Mothers selected for the Fellowship will commit 10 hours weekly over a 2-year period to the program, and will receive a monthly stipend, laptop, internet/cell phone service, individualized coaching and other support to enhance their development.
